Office Cleanout Procedure

If you are moving out of your office or conducting an annual spring cleaning, please follow these steps:

1. Notify Your Supervisor and the Sustainability Office: Contact your supervisor and the Sustainability office at [sustainability@unbc.ca] for assistance.

2. Submit a TMA request - Under "Action Requested", indicate that there is an Office Cleanout or Move.

3. Categorize Your Office Items: Take inventory of the items in your office and categorize them using the guidelines below:

  • Items to Keep: These are items you'll bring to your new office or home.
  • Items to Donate: Consider giving these to the NUGSS Free Store through the UNBC Share Shelf.
  • Items to Recycle or Compost: Refer to the "Recycling and Compost" sections of the UNBC Sustainability D2L course to determine where these items should go.
  • Items to Dispose: This includes items that cannot be Recycled or Composted, identify these items accordingly and dispose of them.

Please use the checklist below:

4. Submit Your Inventory: Once you’ve categorized everything, send the final inventory to the Sustainability Office.

5. Complete the Recycling and Composting Modules: Finish the course modules on Recycling and Composting on the D2L Sustainability Training module to ensure you know how to properly dispose of each item.

6. Final Check and Audit: Inform your supervisor once your office cleaning is complete so they can perform an audit. The supervisor should notify the Sustainability Office when the office is vacant and ready for Facilities to conduct their inventory.
