When registering for guest tickets for Convocation Day, all graduands are asked to indicate if their guests have any accessibility needs. This allows the UNBC Convocation Office to liaise with graduands and ensure their guests' accessibility needs are met on the day of the ceremony.
The following measures are put in place to ensure accessibility:
- Guests with accessibility needs can be dropped off at the Northern Sport Centre in the roundabout located at the front of the building.
- Event assistants will be on hand to help guests who require assistance.
- An elevator is available at the Northern Sport Centre for guests to use and access the gymnasium and the accessible seating area. Guests sitting in the accessible seating area can be accompanied by the rest of their party so all can sit together.
- Closed captioning is displayed on a large screen to the left of the stage and will be visible from the designated accessible seating area.
- All ceremony venues are close to a public transit drop-off location and are accessible by bicycles and wheelchairs.
- Gender-inclusive, wheelchair-accessible, and parent-friendly washrooms are on-site.
- Ceremonies can be viewed online via livestream. Recordings of the ceremonies are made available online following Convocation Day.
- Only vehicles displaying an appropriate Sparc or VIP parking pass will be permitted to park in the Northern Sport Centre parking lot.
Please note: UNBC is unable to provide wheelchairs for individual use. Those requiring wheelchairs for the duration of the ceremony should make their own arrangements prior to arriving on campus.
