Who do I contact to get information on the Convocation Ceremony?
Ask the student who is graduating. In accordance with Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy regulations, we cannot give out personal information about students.
How do I get guest tickets?
Each graduand must register for guest tickets. Guest ticket registration will open in April to students that have applied and are eligible to graduate. Access to the guest ticket registration system will be through the Graduand RSVP found in myUNBC.
When guest ticket registration opens, each graduate can register for up to two (2) guest e-tickets, with the ability to be waitlisted for an additional two guest tickets. Graduates can also "donate back" any of the original two (2) tickets that they do not need. If venue space permits, waitlist tickets will be allocated in early May. You will receive an email to your UNBC email account with instructions on claiming waitlist tickets, should one or more be allocated to you.
Tickets are electronic. Graduands must send their tickets to their guests for scanning on Convocation Day to gain access to the Ceremony.
If I have accessibility, mobility or closed-captioning needs and require assistance or seating accommodations, who do I contact?
Please let your graduand know if you require an accommodation so they can accurately answer the accommodation questions asked as part of ticket registration. The Convocation Office will follow up with graduands who identify guests require accommodations to ensure guest needs are met.
When should I arrive at the Ceremony to get a good seat?
Guests can arrive one hour prior to the Ceremony, and line up outside the Northern Sport Centre (NSC) general entrance doors. All guests must have a guest ticket to enter the Ceremony.
What happens if I can't get a ticket?
Guests without tickets can watch the live stream in the Canfor Theatre (Room 6-213) or from home.
What happens if I forget my ticket?
Guests will not be granted entry into the Ceremony without a ticket. Please visit the Information Assistant at the front desk of the Northern Sport Centre for assistance.
Can I hand flowers to my graduand during the Ceremony?
Flowers are NOT permitted within the Northern Sport Centre gymnasium. Guests can bring flowers into the Northern Sport Centre lobby and leave the flowers with the Flower Attendants for pick-up following the Ceremony. Guests can also order flowers online for you to give to your graduate after the Ceremony, or purchase some onsite.
Can I take photos during the Ceremony?
Professional photographers will be at the Ceremony to take photos of graduates as they cross the stage, and do an individual photo afterwards. Guests are encouraged to remain seated during the Ceremony. Additionally, beginning in 2025, graduates will be gifted a personalized StageClip, or graduation video, within a week of their Convocation Ceremony. Graduates are advised to check their UNBC email for the link to the clip, which can be shared with friends and family on their social media platforms.
How can I help my graduand on Convocation Day?
Guests can familiarize themselves with the Ceremony Schedule to ensure graduands are on time and upon arrival adhere to instructions given by, traffic and parking attendants. Holding personal possessions for graduands is also helpful.
What if my children cannot sit through the entire Ceremony?
Engage Sport North is hosting an active space for families with young children during the Convocation Ceremony. Children, accompanied by caregivers, can visit Field House 1 to engage in physical literacy activities. Engage Sport North Active Star program staff will be on site to assist.
