Summer Camps
Q - What clothes should my child wear to camp?
A - During the camps, children will be participating in a variety of activities including experiments in the lab, outdoor activities, and a hike to Shane Lake. Campers should wear clothes that they are comfortable in and can be active in. Children must wear closed toed shoes everyday to go into the lab and fully participate in the outdoor activities.
Q - What should my child bring to camp?
A - Children must bring a backpack, lunch, and water bottle. There is no microwave or fridge available, so if the food is perishable, please bring an icepack. If it is going to be particularly hot one day, consider sending your child with a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and bug spray. These items will not be provided by instructors. If it is rainy, please bring a rain jacket.
Q - Where is drop off?
A - There will be signs leading to the drop off area (Building 10 loop) when you enter campus. In the welcome package, there is a map outlining the drop off area. Parents should park in Parking Lot B and walk up to the drop off area. As you approach there will be an instructor outside to greet you and your child! Some camps have drop off at the Northern Sports Centre, please refer to your welcome package to confirm the drop-off location.
Q - How long do the camps run?
A - Each camp runs from Monday – Friday with exceptions due to statutory holidays. Drop off is from 8:15 am – 8:30 am and pick up is from 4:15 pm – 4:30 pm. Children will get a 45-minute lunch break at 12:00 pm, as well as two snack breaks (at about ~10am and ~3pm).
Q - Where is pick up and what do parents/guardians need to bring?
A - To pick up your child, you must park in Parking Lot B and walk up to the loop at the entrance of Building 10 (Teaching and Learning). This is the same location as the drop off area. To pick up a child, a parent/guardian must be on the authorized pick-up list, and they must bring photo ID to confirm their identity. If the person picking up the child is not on the authorized pick-up list, the parent or guardian must email activeminds@unbc.ca earlier in the day to inform Active Minds of the change.
Q - Who does a parent/guardian contact if their child is sick, late, needs an early pickup, or in case of an emergency?
A - A parent guardian should email activeminds@unbc.ca if they have any concerns or scheduling issues. In case of emergency call UNBC Active Minds Coordinators, Rathika or Joelle, at 250-960-6506 (please leave a voice message).
