Instructors must perform due diligence by outlining the risks and benefits associated with any field trips. It is suggested that instructors provide an orientation for field trips that involve out-of-town travel.
Prior to departure students must complete an informed consent form (for mandatory field trips) or a waiver form (for voluntary activities). Please be sure to itemize the risks on the appropriate form or have the risks listed out as an attachment to the form. Please note that there are special forms for minors and for trips that involve international travel.
Six weeks prior to a field school, contact the Risk & Safety Management office (250) 960-5020 or email safety@unbc.ca to determine if there are any special advisories that may impact the trip. Travel information or advisories for travel to foreign countries can be obtained through Travel.gc.ca.
