Northern Medical Program associate professor Dr. Andrea Gingerich presented a paper at the AAMC RIME conference (Association of American Medical Colleges conference in the Research in Medical Education section) this past fall in Atlanta; the paper was subsequently recognized with an award.

Andrea and her team received the 2024 RIME Outstanding Research Award for the paper, entitled “Praise in Public; Criticize in Private”: Unwritable Assessment Comments and the Performance Information That Resists Being Written.

“This paper results from collaborating with an all-star team of scholars,” said Andrea. “We took a risk and used a rhetorical device in our analysis and writing to put the focus on the performance information that resists being written rather than on the supervisors who resist writing some performance information.”

The research has been published in the Academic Medicine journal.
