Chetwynd
Located in the Rocky Mountains foothills, Chetwynd is the gateway to Peace River country. The host of an annual international chainsaw carving championship (held each June), Chetwynd is home to more than 120 unique wood sculptures displayed throughout the town. Chetwynd is situated on the traditional territories of the Saulteau First Nations and West Moberly First Nations.
The Chetwynd Hospital and Health Centre has acute beds and an emergency department, and also provides long-term and palliative care, serving a population of about 8,000 (including surrounding areas). The town’s primary care clinic houses various services, including mental health and substance use care, home and community care, and public health.
With a multitude of lakes and rivers close by, Chetwynd offers plenty of outdoor recreation fun, including a thriving equestrian community. The local rec centre is a large facility that offers something for everyone, including a leisure pool, climbing wall, curling and ice hockey programs, running/walking track and racquet sports.
