Reinstatement

Students who have withdrawn from their graduate program and later wish to return to the program they withdrew from must apply in order to be reinstated to their program. Reinstatement requires the support of the supervisor (where assigned) and Program Chair.

Students who have exceeded the time limit to complete their degree (inclusive of time away from their graduate program) may be reinstated with the support of the program following a review of previously completed coursework and the current calendar requirements for degree completion. Accepting previously completed courses for credit towards the degree where the time limit has expired is at the discretion of the program. Additional, repeated, or supplemental coursework may be required.

To apply for reinstatement, please complete the Reinstatement Request Application Form and, along with the required supplemental documents, submit your request to graduate-admissions@unbc.ca

You are required to attached a letter stating your rationale for return, outline a plan to complete the degree (including the time frame), and attach proof of supervisor support for reinstatement (not required for course-based programs).

All outstanding tuition and fees must be paid in order to be considered for reinstatement.

Additionally, time limits to complete degree requirements are inclusive of time away from the program unless an exception is made at the point of admission. As such, students should be mindful that time extension fees may apply. Switching enrolment status is not permitted, whereby students are reinstated as part-time or full-time based on their prior enrolment.

If students have completed coursework elsewhere since leaving their program, an official transcript is required from each institution attended and transfer credit must be requested with submission of the application.

Students who were required to withdraw are not eligible for reinstatement.
