The Student Support Team (SST) is an interdisciplinary team acting as a consultative body consisting of UNBC staff who identify, support, and respond to concerns for students, students identified as experiencing distress, and students who directly connect with the SST.
The purpose of the SST is to reduce silos and streamline supports for students. This team aims to connect students with the appropriate resources for their unique situation. The SST takes a proactive and preventative approach to facilitate continued student success and encourage resiliency.
Areas within the scope of the SST include, but are not limited to:
- Mental health challenges.
- Concerning behavioural changes.
- Financial insecurity.
- Bullying and harassment concerns.
How We Support Students:
- Conduct risk assessments and triage to determine the appropriate level of support.
- Assessing concerns and determining the best course of action.
- Connecting students with relevant campus and community supports.
- Providing follow-up and monitoring to ensure ongoing well-being.
- Collaborating with university personnel to develop individualized support plans.
Decision-Making Process:
Referrals are reviewed to determine the level of urgency and the most appropriate response. Decisions are made based on the nature of the concern, student needs, and available resources. Follow-up actions may include direct outreach, resource referrals, or other UNBC services if necessary.
Note: The Student Support Team is not an emergency service. Please contact 9-1-1 in situations involving risk of imminent harm to self or others.
