ConnectU - Information for students

Life at UNBC is unique – keeping up with academic pressures, balancing personal lives, and maintaining overall well-being can be challenging. UNBC has a wide range of student services and resources in place across all our campuses. ConnectU is a system that helps faculty, staff, and students identify and reach out on behalf of students who could benefit from additional support services.

Not sure whether to submit a referral? When in doubt, fill one out.

Note: ConnectU is not for emergencies. In an emergency, call Security 250-960-7058 or 911.

Questions from Students about ConnectU

If it’s possible/appropriate and safe to do so, talk with the student about your concerns. Let them know that UNBC has free resources available to support them. Suggest the student contact UNBC's Restorative Relations and Student Supports Coordinator, who can assist them or fill out a ConnectU Referral form

Yes, if you need support, you can fill out the ConnectU referral form or contact the Restorative Relations and Student Supports Coordinator directly.

In a caring community, members look out for each other and try to help when possible. If someone is concerned about you, they may submit a ConnectU referral. Ideally, they will talk to you about their concern first; however, this is not always possible.

ConnectU referrals will go directly to the Restorative Relations and Student Supports (RR &SS) department. This team is trained to support students at UNBC. The RR & SS Department will assess the referral and decide whether it’s necessary to contact you. The office will contact you primarily by your UNBC email and/or telephone.

If you receive an email or phone call, we encourage you to respond. The choice is yours to engage, unless their is a risk to self, to the UNBC community, or involvement in non-academic misconduct. There is no penalty for not responding, and you can still access supports at any time.

No. Information submitted through ConnectU will not show up on your academic records.

Any information submitted through ConnectU is confidential and falls under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Personal information will be kept confidential unless the situation necessitates or as required by law.
