The UNBC Health Research Institute (HRI) is designed to enable UNBC's experienced and emerging health researchers (faculty, staff and students) from across the 5 Faculties and the Division of Medical Sciences, to join together for the purpose of furthering health research and innovation. The Institute provides a venue for collaboration among the diverse group of researchers from many disciplines, who undertake various forms of health research, including research on the determinants of health. The Institute encompasses researchers working in the areas identified in the UNBC Strategic Research Plan (Determinants of Health, Health Services and Policy, Population and Public Health, Indigenous Health, Health and Environment), as well as others who engage in health research at UNBC.

Mission
To facilitate the creation and translation of knowledge that will enhance the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities.
The UNBC Health Research Institute will pursue this mission through promoting knowledge creation, knowledge synthesis and exchange, fostering links among researchers, stakeholders and partners such as Northern Health, and developing research capacity.

HRI researchers in the news
Student-designed portal connects health researchers
HRI Connect, a new UNBC Health Research Institute databank developed by UNBC Computer Science students, will enable northern health researchers to more easily find and connect with others who have similar interests, helping to further health innovation in the region. The portal is also the first major production deployment in the cloud for the University.

Members of the University community gathered for a special ceremony to honour seven retiring faculty members, celebrating their remarkable accomplishments and the lasting impact they have made on UNBC and beyond.
Federal funding to support joint Indigenous cultural safety initiative in health systems
The National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health and the Health Arts Research Centre, both housed at UNBC, are receiving a $1-million Indigenous Services Canada grant for a two-year project focused on promoting cultural safety and Indigenous knowledge in health care.
