Meal Plans

Is the Meal Plan mandatory for certain students living on campus? 
The plan allows students to maximize their campus experience by reducing the need to grocery shop, prepare, and clean up after meals. The Meal Plan is an all-you-care-to-eat plan with unlimited in and out privileges at the Agora Dining Hall during operating hours. 

Anyone can purchase a Meal Plan. However, students who choose to live at the UNBC Prince George campus and have less than 60 UNBC credit hours are required to purchase a 5-Day or 7-Day Meal Plan (automatically added to Housing fees).

If a Meal Plan is not mandatory for you, purchase a 5 or 7 Day Meal Plan in two ways:

1. Visit the I Can Dine website at www.unbc.icaneat.ca to purchase with a credit card; or
2. Email housing@unbc.ca to have the Meal Plan fees added to your student account (or opt-in during your housing application).

What are the Dining Dollars included in the meal plan?
The 7-Day Meal Plan includes $150 Dining Dollars and 5-Day Meal Plan includes $150 Dining Dollars to make purchases at retail locations across campus. Dining Dollars are non-transferable and non-refundable. They are valid for two years from purchase date.

What are the operating dates of the Meal Plan at the Agora Dining Hall? 
The Agora Dining Hall meal plans are effective from the official move-in day of each semester until the last day of each semester (last exam day). The Dining Hall is closed for the winter break between semesters.

Do I need a special card to access the Meal Plan?
Your meal plan is conveniently loaded onto your UNBC ID card. Just swipe and dine!

What if I don’t have my UNBC ID Card?
Your UNBC ID card must be presented to the cashier in order to access the Agora Dining Hall. Please treat it like cash. If your UNBC ID is lost or stolen, please report it immediately to Food Services staff. It is your responsibility to replace a lost or stolen card.

Can I take food out of the Agora Dining Hall?
Generally, food and beverages cannot be removed from the Agora Dining Hall. You can come back as many times as you like but food cannot leave. If you require an accommodation, please reach out to the Food Services Director.

What if I have allergies or specific dietary requirements (medical, cultural, religious, lifestyle, person preferences)?
Students who choose to live in UNBC Housing at the Prince George campus and purchase the mandatory Meal Plan must contact UNBC Food Services prior to signing the Housing Contract to discuss individual dietary needs. While we strive to address dietary requests, please be advised UNBC Food Services may not be able to accommodate all individual dietary needs or preferences.

Can I buy a friend’s meal with my Meal Plan?
The 7-Day and 5-Day Meal Plans are tax exempt. They can only be used by the relevant student. 7-Day and 5-Day Meal Plans feature five guest passes per semester. Next time you swipe-in at the front counter, ask for yours. Then, bring a guest to join you for dine-in or take-out!

How do I purchase a Meal Deal?
It’s easy! Using your VISA or Mastercard, make your first purchase securely online at www.unbc.icaneat.ca.

Can UNBC staff, faculty and students eat in the Agora Dining Hall?
Yes! You can pay at the door or purchase any of our convenient Meal Deals and save.

Can I carry my Meal Deal balance forward per term or year?
Meal Deal balances are valid for two years from purchase date. 

Do I need a special card to access my Meal Deal?
Meal Deals are conveniently loaded onto your UNBC ID card. Just swipe and dine!

Can I take food out of the Agora Dining Hall back to my classroom or office?
Generally, food and beverages cannot be removed from the Agora Dining Hall. You can come back as many times as you like but food cannot leave. If you require an accommodation, please reach out to the Food Services Director.

Can I cancel my Meal Deal?
Once you have purchased a Meal Deal there are no refunds.

I have allergies and dietary concerns – what can your menu offer?
Our menu reflects vegan, lactose-free, halal, gluten-free and vegetarian options. Daily specials at the Agora Dining Hall are prepared according to your own custom order. We are confident you will find something that meets your needs.

What if I don’t have my UNBC ID card?
Your UNBC ID card must be presented to the cashier in order to access the Agora Dining Hall. Please treat it like cash. If you forget to bring it, you will have to pay (cash, credit or debit).

If your UNBC ID is lost or stolen, please report it immediately to Food Services staff. It is your responsibility to replace lost or stolen cards.

Can I buy a friend’s meal with my Meal Deal?
Absolutely! Meal Deals are based on swipes of the card so if you would like to invite a friend to dine with you we would welcome the opportunity to serve them!
