Award-winning students
Welcome to the Department of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences!
Together we are fascinated with our changing planet, human processes that shape our world, as well as the physical, chemical and biological processes that take place on Earth. We look forward to sharing with you our exceptional teaching, world-class research, and experiential learning opportunities close to home and around the world.
The physical and human landscapes we occupy are complex and constantly changing. Making sense of these dynamic landscapes is what Geography is all about. UNBC Geography is a vibrant community of human and physical geographers and we offer both a BA and a BSc in Geography along with a several minors. Geographers offer a spatial perspective on the events, ideas and processes that shape our world. Geography is an integrative discipline, drawing upon and synthesizing a wide range of specialized knowledge in order to make sense of phenomena as it occurs on the ground.
The Environmental Science BSc degree incorporates the study of the physical, chemical and biological processes that take place on Earth, as well as the social, political and cultural processes which impact the planet. As an environmental science student, you’ll strive to understand the complex relationships between people and the environment, drawing on a diverse range of disciplines. Students will graduate from this major ready to address diverse problems such as threats to and conservation of air, soil and water, climate change, and movement of chemicals in the environment. It provides a solid background for careers in environmental protection and resource management and research, in both the public and private sectors.
The Department also participates in graduate degrees in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies and Interdisciplinary Graduate Studies.
