Having been established as a field station focused on the highly interdisciplinary field of landscape ecology, a key goal of the QRRC is to facilitate research and education spanning interactions between the life, terrestrial, freshwater and atmospheric environmental sciences, as well as socio-economic, cultural and historical studies.
Scholars of all levels are therefore very welcome to visit us, and to use the centre as a base for their exploration of this fascinating corner of BC.
We're always keen to help with the development of new projects which will generate and communicate knowledge related to this exceptional area's natural systems, and improve understanding of human interactions with them.
The QRRC is particularly well-suited to supporting extended fieldwork campaigns by faculty members, post-graduates and under-graduates, whether from UNBC, or other universities and government agencies in BC, Canada and internationally.
In 2016, the QRRC hosted visitors from...
- UNBC
- The T'exelc, Xatśūll and other First Nations communities
- Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC
- Fisheries and Oceans Canada
- BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations
- Liverpool John Moores University
- Thompson Rivers University
- University of British Columbia
- University of Lethbridge
- Bedford Institute of Oceanography
- University of California, Santa Barbara
- University of Gloucestershire

Our aim is to offer a comprehensive range of practical solutions to the scientific, logistical and financial challenges associated with conducting research in a relatively remote location. We will do everything possible to provide the equipment, contextual data, accommodation, local knowledge and (potentially) supporting staff required, at appropriate costs, thereby allowing you to focus as much as possible of your available budgets of time and funding on your core interests.
It may be possible for us to continue to monitor and maintain instrumentation left in the field or at the centre, once you return to your home institution.
We are also pleased to host field courses, within the constraints of the accommodation we are able to offer. If your group is larger than 18 people, we will help to arrange additional or alternative lodgings.
Similarly, it may be possible for us to host other short courses, meetings or retreats which benefit from the QRRC's location and facilities, and the expertise of its staff.
If you would like to discuss ideas for basing your project at the QRRC, please contact us! It is best to do so first by e-mail: if you would like to chat by phone, please let us know, and we will arrange a suitable date and time to call.
