Dr. Bruce Bidgood is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work, University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Business & Economics, Nipissing University and a graduate supervisor for the Masters in Leadership program of Royal Rhodes University.  He is an award-winning social work educator with more than ten years of instructional experience at four Canadian post-secondary institutions: UNBC, University of Windsor, Memorial University and Wilfrid Laurier University. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of clinical and community practice, field education, ethics, social policy, research methodology, data analysis, and child welfare.  

Dr. Bidgood is an award-winning scholar and the recipient of the 2006 Award for Excellence from the Emerald Literati Network, the world's largest peer-reviewed publisher of journal titles in the fields of management, information science and engineering.  He has conducted a substantial number of applied social welfare research projects funded by the federal and provincial governments as well as human service organizations. His current program of research includes both quantitative and naturalistic investigations of the process and efficacy of family violence interventions; including, wife abuse and child maltreatment clientele. He is currently the principal investigator of a federally-funded (SSHRC Grant # 410-2004-0074) investigation to predict burnout and job satisfaction among front-line child protection workers using structural equation modelling (SEM). Dr. Bidgood also conducts SEM research on stress, performance and customer satisfaction in the private sector. 

Before entering academia, Dr. Bidgood held a variety of professional positions in the areas of research, social policy, social planning as well as direct practice. He served as the Director of Social Planning for Wellington County (1990-1992).  He was a co-founder of the Centre for Social Welfare Studies, Wilfrid Laurier University (1987-1990).  He began his career in social work as a children's mental health worker at the Niagara Centre for Youth Care (1983-1985). 

Bruce is an active community volunteer as a speaker, government consultant, participant on boards of directors and planning bodies and as a volunteer mental health counsellor.  He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the British Columbia Association of Social Workers.  Dr. Bidgood was also elected to the City of Terrace Council in 2008 and serves as a municipal delegate to: Housing Task Force, Health Task Force, Kermodei Tourism Society, Youth Task Force.
