Strategic Research Plan

What is a Strategic Research Plan?

UNBC’s Strategic Research Plan sets out a collective vision and plan for research and innovation for 2025-2030 and beyond. The plan serves as a roadmap, setting out our goals and priority areas over the coming five years.

What currently exists?

UNBC’s current Strategic Research Plan can be found here. Our current plan is in place to the end of 2024. A draft summary of key outcomes from our previous Strategic Research Plan can be found here.

Planning process

UNBC is a vibrant research-intensive university with research and innovation activities that span diverse disciplines and sectors. This renewal is occurring alongside the renewal of the UNBC Academic Plan, and both are carried to build upon the overall UNBC Strategic Plan, READY.

In preparing this renewed strategy, our team are committed to undertaking broad consultation with UNBC community members and partners through engagement sessions, interviews, focus groups, surveys, and more. This webpage will include details of our planning activities to date, important dates and events, and links to resources and documents.

We recognize that multiple engagement processes are taking place concurrently. Where possible, we have worked with other planning teams to avoid overlap and to collaborate where possible.

Latest progress

We are thrilled to have completed four engagement events so far, three of which have been hybrid sessions. We have learned a great deal from the participants but are still looking for more input. This week, our team is starting a series of focus groups and interviews. If you would like to be part of a focus group or arrange an individual interview, please reach out. In early November, we will also be releasing a brief online survey, offering more opportunities for input. As we continue through this round of engagements, we will begin to synthesize the key messages and will be bringing these back for discussion. Watch this space and reach out anytime!

Our planning team are thrilled to be working with the newly formed UNBC Strategic Research Plan Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee provides direction, guidance, and oversight on the engagement process. Members include Mike Bell, Deanna Brown, Susan Burke, Gabrielle Daoust, Mohab El-Hakim, Heather Empey, Chengbo Fu, Penina Sara-Lynn Harding, VivianeJosewski, Zoe Meletis, Kalindi Morgan, Darlene Sanderson, Daniel Sims, and Oscar Venter. We thank our Advisory Committee for their ongoing contributions to this important initiative. Our team are also working with Prime Strategy Group to support us in the development of this framework and plan.
