UNBC Men’s Soccer Coach Moves to New Position

Media Release

Prince George, BC – The UNBC men’s soccer team is looking for a new coach after current coach Alan Alderson announced he is moving on to a new opportunity.

At the moment Alderson cannot disclose details regarding his new position, but says it was an opportunity too good to pass up.

“The difficult part about this is I’ve been so excited about the progress of our program at UNBC,” says Alderson. “We set a fantastic foundation, and developed a talented group of young men who are great students and athletes. The upcoming season looks very promising for the team.”

Alderson joined UNBC Athletics as its first full-time head coach in June, 2012, which was also the team’s first year in the Canada West Conference of Canadian Interuniversity Sport. He came from Calgary where he was Director of Coaching for the NSD Soccer Club and Total Soccer Development, and the Alberta Soccer Association Provincial Team Head Coach for U-16 Boys.

The Timberwolves are consistently one of the youngest university teams in the country, and Alderson says he expects the focus on developing younger players will bear fruit in the future.

“Alan worked extremely hard to recruit the best student athletes for the UNBC men’s soccer program and the team improved each year under his leadership,” says Loralyn Murdoch, UNBC’s Director of Athletics and Recreation. “His work in the community both on and off the pitch has been fantastic. We will be sorry to see him go, but wish him the best in his new endeavour.”

UNBC is currently looking for candidates to fill the coaching position in time for the beginning of the 2015 soccer season.

The men’s soccer team will open its season with back-to-back road weekends this year, starting in Victoria Sept. 11-12. The home opener for the men will be the third week of regular season play, Sept. 26-27, when they host the University of Fraser Valley Cascades.
