UNBC to Receive Clean Energy Award
September 22, 2011
The University of Northern British Columbia is being honoured by the Clean Energy Association of BC for outstanding contribution to the Province's clean energy industry. UNBC's Bioenergy Plant will receive the Environmental Stewardship Award at the Association's annual conference “Generate 2011 - Clean Energy: Backbone of a Sustainable Economy” on Monday, September 26, at Vancouver’s Hyatt Hotel. UNBC President George Iwama will be in attendance to accept the Award. The Bioenergy Plant at UNBC is a logical extension of the University's mission to be responsive to northern communities. Located at the epicentre of Canada's largest forestry and bioenergy region, UNBC implemented its bioenergy project to serve as a platform for applied research and education. UNBC worked with BC-based Nexterra and local companies to implement the bioenergy system that is one the cleanest in North America. It will offset fossil fuel consumption on the Prince George campus by 85 percent. |
