An Online Visual History of the North
The Northern BC Archives at the Geoffrey R. Weller Library atUNBC has recently completed digitization of over 1700historical images of exploration in Northern British Columbia in theearly 20th century. These images from 8 distinct collections featurevisual documentation of diverse subjects including that of early townsite development of Fort Fraser, Hazelton. Fort George and PrinceRupert; Grand Trunk Pacific Railway construction; big game huntingexpeditions in the Peace River region; natural history expeditions, andcommercial and economic exploratory activity within several Northern BCcommunities c.1900-c.1939. These images are now available on the Archives on-line database.Funding assistance for this digital initiative was received from the BCHistory Digitization Program, which is funded by the Irving K. BarberLearning Centre at the University of British Columbia.
