New Chair of the Board Named

Dawn Martin, a tireless advocate for education in northern BC, is the new Chair of the UNBC Board of Governors.

Ms. Martin has been a member of the Board since 2006 but her career ineducation started nearly 30 years ago. Starting in 1980, she taught atvarious schools in School Districts #82 and #88 and held positionsranging from teacher-librarian to Principal. She completed her careerin education as the Director of Instruction (Student Support Services)for School District #82. She is currently Vice-President for theCanadian Society for the Advancement of Excellence in Education andChair of the Northwest Education ‘88’ Foundation. She has lived inTerrace for nearly 40 years and has also been active with local boardsfor the library, child development, hospital, and hospital foundation.

Ms. Martin succeeds Dr. Don Rix, who has served as Chair of the UNBCBoard of Governors since early 2005 and is stepping down from the Boardafter nearly 6 years of service.

The Board of Governors and the Senate are the University’s two primarygoverning bodies. The Senate oversees academic issues while the Boardis responsible for the finances and operation of the University.
