The members of the Northern Development Initiative Trust Board ofDirectors have had their first tour of the Charles Jago Northern SportCentre site since investing more than $4 million in the project.

The $4.2 million investment has two components:
•    a $3 million interest-free loan that will be repaidover five years by the City of Prince George and the Regional Districtof Fraser Fort George
•    a $1.2 million grant from the Northern Trust’scross-regional program that represents the collective support in theproject from the 40 communities located in the Northern Trust’s area.

“I know that I speak on behalf of my colleagues on the Board when I say– WOW – what an impressive asset this will be for the whole region,”says Bruce Sutherland, Chair of the Northern Trust Board. “I’ve heardmuch about the Sport Centre but it did nothing to prepare me for seeingit in real life. It’s a joy for the Northern Trust to be involved inprojects such as this.”

“Quite simply, we wouldn’t be where we are today with the NorthernSport Centre without the support of organizations such as the NorthernTrust,” says Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley. “Thank you to all ofthe Trust communities for their support and we look forward to seeingresidents from throughout the region at the opening ceremony onSeptember 21,” adds UNBC President, Don Cozzetto.

The Northern Trust’s investment was originally announced in May, 2006.
