Canadian Forest Products Ltd. has made the largest contribution to datein support of what will be one of British Columbia’s premier sportfacilities. The company is contributing $500,000 towards the cost ofbuilding the $30.5 million Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre. “This is an incredible day for UNBC, the City of Prince George, and theentire region of northern British Columbia,” says UNBC President DonCozzetto. “This facility will revolutionize the opportunities forcitizens both young and old to pursue their athletic dreams andmaintain a healthy lifestyle. What an honour it is for us to be part of this.” The Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre is currently under constructionat the entrance to UNBC’s Prince George campus. It is the result of aunique partnership between the University and the City of PrinceGeorge, together with PacificSport, the BC sport development agency.The 145,000 square foot facility will house a three-court gymnasiumwith seating for 2000, a fieldhouse with room for two indoor soccerfields, an elevated 280m indoor track, offices for high-performancesport coaches, sport medicine and physiotherapy services, and weightand cardio equipment. The Government of British Columbia hasprovided $20.5 million of the total cost of constructing the NorthernSport Centre. The official opening ceremony is scheduled for September 21.
