Business Students Win Top Awards in Western Canadian Competition

University of Northern British Columbia students in the School ofBusiness captured two top awards in western Canada’s largest businesscompetition, held recently in Vancouver. JDC West attracted student teams from 10 western Canadian universitieswho compete in competitions based on a variety of academic case studiesthat draw on the students' skills in marketing, accounting, finance,entrepreneurship, international business, etc. In its first year in thecompetition, UNBC won first place in Marketing and Accounting andcaptured third in International Business. No other university capturedmore first place honours in the case study competition. “This is a tremendous accomplishment for our students. All of thefaculty are so proud of what our students have achieved,” says BobEllis, Chair of the UNBC School of Business. “Special congratulationsare due to fourth-year student Stephen English, who organized UNBC’steam on behalf of the whole program, and Phil Hancyk, President of theCommerce Student Society. Our students are gaining incredibleleadership and business skills by participating in these events.” “The JDC West competition attracted about 450 students this year and itspeaks volumes about the quality of education at UNBC when our studentsrise to the top,” says UNBC President Don Cozzetto. “Theiraccomplishment is celebrated by everyone at UNBC.” With more than 600 majors, the School of Business is UNBC’s most popular program. The next event for the Commerce Student Society is a community businessdinner on February 7 at the Ramada Hotel. Guest speakers will be BruceSutherland and Don Krusel, CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority.
