Timberwolves Athletic Association Formed

The Timberwolves Athletic Association is pleased to announce thesigning of a Memorandum of Understanding with the University ofNorthern BC.  The document establishes a working relationshipbetween the grassroots organization and the University, with the commongoal of furthering UNBC athletics.

With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, the TimberwolvesAthletic Association will become officially recognized as a communityorganization supporting athletics at UNBC.  As a registeredsociety it can assist the UNBC athletic program in a number of waysincluding scholarships, equipment purchases and transportation. Funds will be raised through a variety of means including raffles andspecials events.

“Our organization has been developed by northern BC residents who sharebelief that we can improve the sport culture at the University,” saidAssociation Director Brent Stone.  “We have something to add toUNBC.  And if that makes UNBC better, it will make Northern BCbetter.”

UNBC has welcomed the establishment of the Timberwolves AthleticAssociation. “This association as critical to the future development ofAthletics at UNBC,” says UNBC President Don Cozzetto. “Their work interms of fundraising and strengthening the connection between Athleticsand the community will be essential as we aim for competition at thenational university level.”

The Timberwolves Athletic Association provides an opportunity forathletic-minded individuals across the north to play an important rolein the success of sports at UNBC.  As a volunteer organization, itrelies on the importance of its mission to attract individuals who arewilling to provide their skills for the good of the University and theregion.  With the region’s long history of sports, it believes theimportance of sports in the development of a healthy community iswell-recognized among northern residents. The current directors of theTAA are Alex Hawley, Brent Stone, Dave Barry, Mark Bertulli, RenzoBerra, Mario Mastrioanni, Larry Olsen, Ann Drezet, and Ray Smith.

The Timberwolves Athletic Association expects to announce its firstmajor fundraising project in support of UNBC Athletics within weeks
