UNBC Professor Hosts Photography Exhibition on Campus

Stunning black and white photographs of western Newfoundland are beingexhibited by UNBC professor Michael Rutherford from September 18 toNovember 3.  Presented by the UNBC Arts Council, the exhibitionwill be featured on the third floor of the Geoffrey R. Weller Libraryat UNBC. A total of 23 images will be presented.

Dr. Rutherford is a professor in UNBC’s Environmental Science andEngineering program. He is also an accomplishedphotographer, placing first (2003) and second (2000) in the CanadianAssociation for Photographic Arts Annual National Print Competition.

“Living in western Newfoundland between 1997 and 2001 offered menumerous opportunities for my type of landscape photography: diversegeology and landforms, rugged shorelines, forests and rivers, anddramatic lighting conditions,” says Dr. Rutherford, who came to UNBC in2001. “In this exhibit, I want to give the audience a glimpse of thediversity and ruggedness of the Newfoundland landscape. It’s thosecharacteristics that I also love to capture in my more recentphotography around northern BC.”

The opening reception for Black and White Images of WesternNewfoundland will be Thursday, September 21 from 3:00 – 4:00pm on thethird floor of the Geoffrey R. Weller Library.
