UNBC Hosts Information Session for Prospective Students

UNBC will host its largest information session of the year tomorrow(May 9) for prospective students interested in starting courses withthe University in the coming academic year.

The session will begin at 6:30pm in the Bentley Centre and people areinvited to drop in until 8pm. There will be displays and presentationsabout student services, financial aid, Athletics, and various otherservices and degree programs. There will also be opportunities to applyand register for courses right on site.

“Registrations for September are currently up about 2% and we want tomake sure that local people have the information they need to be ableto take advantage of the programs and courses we’re offering,” saysPaul Madak, Dean of Enrolment Management at UNBC. “A variety ofUniversity services and programs will be represented at the infosession to ensure that prospective students get all of the informationthey need at one time and in one place.”

New developments at UNBC:
•    Students transferring to UNBC from a communitycollege with an A- average or better are now eligible for a $750scholarship when they register at UNBC. The award is available forstudents who transfer after completing the equivalent of one full year(minimum 30 credits) at college.

•    UNBC has an “interest only” category for studentswho may either want to take a single course for personal interest ortry out the University before considering a full degree. The admissionprocess is quicker for students applying under this category andhundreds of courses are available.

•    UNBC is developing northern BC’s first Bachelor ofFine Arts degree in conjunction with the Emily Carr Institute. It’sexpected that the program will begin in Fall 2007.

•    Construction of the Northern Sport Centre is nowunderway at the entrance to the UNBC campus. Sporting a gymnasium,indoor track, and two indoor fields, the facility will be complete inFall 2007. A new Teaching & Learning Centre, providing additionalspace for a variety of degree programs including Business andEducation, will be ready in Spring 2007.
