Sitework Begins for Northern Sport Centre

Trees are being harvested on the site of the future Northern SportCentre, signaling the start of construction for the new facility.

Construction is being led by a consortium of private companies thathave partnered with UNBC and the City of Prince George on the project:Giffels Design and Construction, NORR Ltd., Chernoff ThompsonArchitects, and Western Industrial Contractors of Prince George.

The $30.75 million Northern Sport Centre will include a three-courtgymnasium, a twin field house, an elevated 280-metre indoor track, anexpanded fitness centre, two squash courts, ten offices for coaches, aseminar room for coaching clinics, physiotherapy and strength trainingfacilities, and connection to the trail network on Cranbrook Hill. It’sbeing built on the UNBC campus between University Way and the campusRing Road. The building will be complete in time for the start ofclasses in September, 2007.

•    The official sod-turning for the Northern SportCentre will take place at UNBC on Friday, May 19th, at 1:30pm. Theevent will begin in the Atrium of the Administration Building andconclude at the construction site.
