The Northern Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams will bebeginning their 2005-06 seasons at home this weekend against CapilanoCollege. Games will be played this Friday and Saturday at the Collegeof New Caledonia.

Based on their pre-season action, the UNBC men’s team is ranked #1 inCanada among all collegiate teams. “Obviously, we’d rather be numberone at the end of the season than at the beginning, but the rankingdoes provide some reward for the hard work our athletes have alreadyput in this year,” says men’s head coach Zane Robison. Against otherteams from the Canadian Colleges’ Athletic Association, UNBC was 7-0 inpre-season play.  Their only losses were to the University ofSaskatchewan and the University of Alberta, both highly ranked teams inCanadian Interuniversity Sport.

While the women’s team had fewer pre-season games, their recordincludes a win over last year’s national champion from ConcordiaCollege in Alberta.  The women are currently ranked 5th in BC.
