DAWSON CREEK RESIDENT WINS INAUGURAL AWARD

A business leader from Dawson Creek is the inaugural recipient of anaward created by the University of Northern British Columbia torecognize leaders in knowledge advancement throughout the northernregion.

DorisBrocke has been with the Kiwanis Enterprise Centre for 10 years andcurrently manages the facility. She oversees programs that encouragethe entrepreneurial attitude and develop small business skills.According to Doris’ nomination, she has been the driving force behindBranding the Peace, a major regional economic development initiativeoriginally launched in 1999. Linking 1500 regional agencies andorganizations, the intiative includes the peacecountry.com portal andworks to develop and strengthen industry clusters in which businesseswork together to market their products and promote the region.

UNBC’s new Leader in Knowledge Advancement Award was presented at theannual Northern BC Today’s Woman Awards in Prince George. The award ispresented to a northern woman who has significantly contributed to theadvancement of knowledge in her field and who has thereby made asubstantial contribution to social and economic advancement in Centraland Northern BC.
