NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR PRESTIGIOUS PUBLIC AWARDS

The University of Northern British Columbia has launched its annualsearch for candidates to receive its two most prestigious awards:

- The Honorary Doctor of Laws degree, which recognizes distinguishedachievement in scholarship, research, teaching, the creative arts, orpublic service and/or significant contribution to the life of theUniversity, British Columbia, Canada or the World.

- The award Friend of the University of Northern British Columbia,recognizes distinguished achievement in the areas noted above, but witha particular emphasis on those who have unselfishly given of themselvesto create, promote, or foster the development of the University.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday, October 12. Nomination formsare available from the Senate Office and can also be downloaded fromwww.unbc.ca/governance/senate/. Nominations must include a CV of thenominee and a statement outlining why the nominee should be considered.For more information, contact the Senate Office at 960-5795.

This past August, ten UNBC Founders received honorary degrees from UNBCto commemorate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Prince Georgecampus. Other past honorary degree recipients have included Haidaartist Bill Reid, forest industry leader Ike Barber, andLieutenant-Governor Iona Campagnolo. Past "Friends" have included MarryFallis and Harry Gairns.
