The Canadian College's Athletic Association today announced the 2002-2003 Community Service Award. This award is chosen from across Canada from all CCAA athletic programs in recognition of their outstanding development of a successful community relations program.

UNBC's TD Canada Trust Outreach program and the RCMP Role Model program is this year's recipient.

"The CCAA Community Service award is a coveted award within our national membership," says Len McNamara of UNBC Athletics. "I would like to thank both TD Canada Trust and the RCMP for their sponsorship of these programs. I am very proud of our two coaches, Loralyn Murdoch and Zane Robison, as well as all our dedicated players, who put forth the time and effort to promote sport and education as well as positive lifestyles. I think they are very worthy of this prestigious award. I would also like to thank the many teachers and students for their support of our programs and allowing us into their schools."

More than 1000 elementary school students participated in the Outreach basketball camps, and nearly 500 took part in the Role Model Program in partnership with the RCMP.
