UNBC Accepts Honorary Degree And Friend Of The University Nominations
October 12, 2000 For Immediate Release
The University of Northern British Columbia is seeking nominations for its two prestigious awards - the honorary degree and the award Friend of the University of Northern British Columbia.
Every year at Convocation, honorary degrees are presented to individuals who have achieved distinction, and often the recipients are current or former residents of northern BC. Previous recipients have included Nisga'a President Joseph Gosnell (2000), Iona Campagnolo (1999), former Lieutenant-Governor David Lam (1996), author Bridget Moran (1995), and Haida artist Bill Reid (1994). Honorary degrees recognize achievement in scholarship, research, teaching, the creative arts, or public service to the province, Canada, or the world. Nominees are selected for excellence, eminence, and accomplishment. Nominations will be accepted until November 8, 2000.
The University is also accepting nominations for the Friend of the University of Northern British Columbia award. It recognizes achievement in the areas listed above, with a particular emphasis on those who have helped create, promote, or foster the development of UNBC. Past recipients have included founders Bruce Strachan (2000), Tom Steadman (1998), and Murray Sadler (1997). The nomination deadline is also November 8th.
Nomination forms are available from Bethany Haffner at (250) 960-6334. The UNBC address is 3333 University Way, Prince George, BC, V2N 4Z9.
