The University of Northern British Columbia Senate has approved an initiative that will strengthen UNBC's links with Yukon College.

Senate has approved a block transfer arrangement between Yukon College and UNBC's Northern Studies degree program. Under the new arrangement, students graduating with a two-year diploma in Northern Studies from Yukon College will be able to transfer all of their credits towards completing a bachelor's degree in Northern Studies at UNBC. The diploma program has about 50 full-time students at Yukon College, and UNBC has the only Northern Studies BA in Canada.

"This new link between our two institutions increases opportunities for northern students to access relevant educational opportunities," says Robin Fisher, Dean of Arts, Social and Health Sciences at the University. UNBC is also partnering with Yukon College to offer master's level Community Health and Social Work courses available in the Yukon.

UNBC's Northern Studies BA includes courses from a variety of different disciplines - Geography, Anthropology, History, Economics, Political Science, Environmental Studies, First Nations Studies, etc - all with a focus on the North and northern development.
