UNBC Offers Language Courses
May 16, 2000 For Immediate Release
The University of Northern British Columbia will be offering a variety of language courses during the spring and summer that will provide students with an introduction to German, Japanese, and northern First Nations languages.
· From June 19 - July 7, the University will be offering its first German language courses. The two Introductory German courses will be taught during weekday evenings for three weeks. INTS 151 is designed for students who have no German experience; INTS 152 may be appropriate for students who have some experience with the German language. Students who complete the course will be able to communicate in a German-speaking environment and be of help to German-speaking tourists visiting the Prince George region. The Goethe-Institut has offered German courses at UNBC before and they have typically had waiting lists.
· Two Beginner Japanese courses are also being offered this summer. Beginner Japanese I started recently and continues to mid-June. Beginner Japanese II starts in early July and continues to mid-August. Both of the Japanese classes are also being taught during weekday evenings.
· Two First Nations languages are being offered in regional communities this summer. A Nisga'a language course is being offered in the Nass Valley and a Haida language course will be taught on Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) in July and August.
All of the language courses are fully credited UNBC courses
