Media Release

February 9, 2000 For Immediate Release

The University of Northern British Columbia will be unveiling its new Northwest regional office in Terrace on Monday, February 14th. The new facility contains 3,000 square feet of space, providing opportunities for expanded classroom space, a computer lab, student office space, and administrative offices. The building is located at the corner of Eby and Park, part of the BC Access Centre.

"This new location will increase accessibility to the University," says Leslie King, the new Northwest Regional Chair. "The increased space will enhance the experience for current UNBC students in Terrace, and provide a focal point for all in the community who are interested in accessing UNBC services or getting more information about our programs. In addition, by moving the regional office from Prince Rupert to Terrace, we'll be in a more central place to provide services throughout the entire Northwest region."

Joining Dr King in the unveiling of the new office will be UNBC President Charles Jago, Dean Robin Fisher, Regional Operations Director Dennis Macknak, the Chair of Education Paul Madak, Chair of First Nations Studies Margo Greenwood, First Nations Studies professor Margaret Anderson, First Nations Centre Director Anne Marie Sam, and Northwest Regional Student Services Coordinator Sharon Alexcee, and Terrace students. The unveiling will begin at 8am. Coffee and a light breakfast will served. Anyone is welcome.

While in Terrace, Dr Jago will be attending a Rotary luncheon on Monday to receive the first contribution to a Rotary scholarship for students from the Northwest region who are attending UNBC.
