UNBC To Host
Lower Mainland Info Sessions
March 17, 1999 For Immediate Release
University of Northern British Columbia representatives will be travelling to the Greater Vancouver area to give prospective students more information about the University, its services, and degree programs. Currently, roughly one-third of UNBC's 3200 students are from southern BC.
"There's a lot of interest in UNBC in the Lower Mainland, but because it's difficult for students to visit the campus and meet with our professors, we're going to them instead," says UNBC President Charles Jago, who will be participating in the sessions. Two public information sessions are planned:
Wednesday, March 24th, 7-9pm
Radisson Hotel - 4331 Dominion Street, Burnaby
Thursday, March 25th, 7-9pm
Sheraton Guildford Hotel - 15269 104th Avenue, Surrey
Joining President Jago will be a number of UNBC students, including President's Scholarship winner Caitlin Birdsall of New Westminster and Bjorn Butow of Langley, the new President of the Business student club.
In addition to the evening sessions, President Jago will be meeting students at Carson Graham Secondary in North Vancouver on March 25th from 1-3pm. A dozen students from that school have already applied to UNBC. As of the first week of March, nearly 400 students from Lower Mainland high schools applied for admission to UNBC in September.
UNBC is currently in its fifth year of full operations and has nearly 3200 students.
