Orientation Activities At UNBC

Nearly 300 first-year university students are participating in Orientation activities at the University of Northern British Columbia this week. Classes start on September 7th but this week's activities are designed to prepare students to succeed at university both academically and socially.
Called Student Success Week (running from August 29th - September 3rd), the activities include tours of UNBC and the community, workshops on note-taking and university services, and presentations from different degree programs.
Some activities are open to the media and include:
- Workshops on the Library, degree programs, co-op education, and health - Monday afternoon
- Sand volleyball - Thursday afternoon
- "Wacky Olympics" - Friday afternoon
Orientation activities for new and returning students will continue the first week of classes. Throughout the week, displays will be set up around campus: Tuesday, September 7th is Multicultural Day; Wednesday is Wellness Day, Drug and Alcohol Day is Thursday, and Friday will feature displays from a number of community services and businesses. The sixth annual Northern Backyard BBQ will also be held on Friday, September 10th.
