Canfor's Pulp and Paper Group Human Resources Manager Alice Downing has been elected the Chair of the University of Northern British Columbia Board of Governors.

Ms Downing has lived in Prince George for 21 years and has been a member of UNBC's Board since 1997. She replaces former Board Chair Horst Sander who served as Chair since 1994.

Currently, Ms Downing is a member of the Joint Advisory Committee for the Collective Agreement Arbitration Bureau of BC, a trustee of the BC Pulp and Paper Industry Health and Welfare Plan, and a member of the Education Committee of the National Institute of Disability Management and Research.

The University's Board of Governors is responsible for the administrative operation of the University. Its 15 members include representatives from northern BC, the President, Chancellor, students, faculty, and staff.
