UNBC Hosts Forestry Event Contract To Be Awarded For Enhanced Forestry Lab

Forestry officials from around BC will be attending a public event at UNBC on Tuesday, May 25th, illustrating the impacts of UNBC research on northern resource management.

The event will include the sod-turning for the new Enhanced Forestry Laboratory and demonstrations of UNBC forestry research. The schedule is as follows:

Presentations by UNBC, industry, and government officials Speakers will include UNBC Forestry Chair Winifred Kessler, President Charles Jago, Slocan CEO Ike Barber, Russ Clinton (West Fraser), Roger Stanyer (Forest Renewal BC), Minister of Forests David Zirnhelt, and local MLAs Paul Ramsey and Lois Boone.

There have been a number of recent developments that will allow UNBC researchers to increase understanding of contemporary forest management issues. These developments have included the creation of major research programs in Growth and Yield and Mixedwood Ecology, the addition of two research forests, and construction of the new Enhanced Forestry Lab. This event will showcase how these initiatives - in addition to the research already being undertaken - will impact northern forest management.
