Education, Skills and Training Minister Paul Ramsey will be announcing some new UNBC college transfer initiatives when he visits the UNBC Works open house on Sunday.
The new initiatives will make it much easier for college students to transfer to UNBC. "Right now, the economic focus of the Province is on the North, and education is strongly allied with economic development," says UNBC President Charles Jago. "The new post-secondary access measures we will be announcing will enhance the access to post-secondary education for northerners."
The announcement will be at 4:00pm on Sunday in the Northwood Winter Garden.
UNBC Works will be UNBC's biggest open house and will highlight the wide range of cutting-edge research underway at the University:
- There will be demonstrations of UNBC's state-of-the-art science equipment (including the electron microscope)
- A computer centre in the Northwood Winter Garden will showcase innovative world wide web resources
- There will be displays of the elk bones found at Parkwood Place and local air pollutionA parent information session is planned
- Each of the University's degree programs will have displays, as will UNBC research centres on child welfare, women's health, land use, and sustainable forestry.
- UNBC Works begins at noon and continues until 5pm. Mr Ramsey is scheduled to visit some of the displays before the news conference begins.
