Prince George, B.C. – The University of Northern British Columbia has been ranked among the top employers in British Columbia for the 11th time.

Mediacorp’s Top Employers in British Columbia contest has recognized UNBC for its events that celebrate professional achievements and career milestones, its supportive maternity and parental leave programs, including provisions for those who are adoptive parents, and other benefits such as subsidized memberships to the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre. The University also provides exceptional educational incentives for employees, including tuition waivers for employees and their family members.

“As a University that keeps students top of mind in every decision we make, UNBC faculty and staff go to extraordinary lengths in supporting how we offer an exceptional post-secondary experience," says UNBC President Dr. Geoff Payne. “The diverse perspectives of our faculty and staff enrich that experience; earning this recognition once again as a top employer in B.C. highlights the ongoing commitment of our outstanding community.”

The annual competition recognizes employers with a head office or main business location in British Columbia. UNBC has been recognized 11 times since first earning a spot on the list in 2012. Today’s announcement comes during UNBC’s annual Employee Recognition Week, which features initiatives such as the Employee Recognition Event that celebrates employees reaching significant service milestones, as well as those who have earned President’s Staff awards for service excellence, creative initiative and leadership.

“UNBC’s exceptional faculty and staff play a vital role in advancing the University’s mission to Ignite, Inspire and Lead Change,” says Vice-President Finance and Administration Rahim Somani. “We deeply appreciate the dedication of our employees, who work tirelessly to create a supportive and dynamic learning and working environment for all."

The competition’s editors consider eight criteria, focusing on progressive and forward-thinking programs. These criteria include the physical workplace, work atmosphere, health and family benefits, vacation policies, employee communications, performance management, training and skills development, and community involvement.
