Dr. Margo Greenwood appointed to CIHR Institutes Advisory Board
UNBC professor Dr. Margo Greenwood has been appointed to the Institutes Advisory Board on Health Innovation with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
Dr. Greenwood is an Indigenous scholar of Cree ancestry. She is a professor in both First Nations Studies and Education at UNBC, and is the Vice-President of Aboriginal Health at Northern Health. She is also the Academic Leader of the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health. She has served on numerous provincial, national and international federations, committees and assemblies, and has worked with UNICEF, the Committee on the Rights of the Child at the United Nations, the Canadian Council on Social Determinants of Health, the Public Health Network of Canada, and the Canadian Institute of Health Research, specifically, the Institute for Aboriginal Peoples’ Health.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Greenwood has focused on the health and well-being of Indigenous children, families and communities. She has also pursued academic work in public health and knowledge translation. In 2010, she was named ‘Academic of the Year’ by the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of British Columbia, and in the following year, she was honoured with the National Aboriginal Achievement Award for Education.
The Institutes Advisory Board (IAB) on Health Innovation will provide advice on accelerating the discovery, development, evaluation and integration of health innovations into practice so that patients can receive the right interventions at the right time.
Dr. Greenwood’s term on the board is for four years. Each IAB consists of 10 to 15 members, including the chair and a vice-chair, who are appointed by the Governing Council of the CIHR.
