Prince George, B.C. – TC Energy’s Coastal GasLink project is renewing its partnership with the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) and investing $180,000 over the next three years to support civil and environmental engineering programs as well as funding for Indigenous students enrolled at the post-secondary institution.

“Coastal GasLink is committed to leaving a lasting legacy in local communities and investing in education is an essential part of that legacy,” said Kiel Giddens, Public Affairs Manager, Coastal GasLink. “We’ve been investing in skills development and long-term education programs to support Indigenous and local residents since project planning started and we are proud to partner again with the University of Northern British Columbia.”

Coastal GasLink Legacy Scholarships will provide 10 awards worth $3,000 each for UNBC civil and environmental engineering students. Applications for the scholarships can be submitted for the Fall 2021, Fall 2022 and Fall 2023 semesters.

Indigenous students enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program at UNBC are also eligible to apply for awards worth $3,000 each beginning in the Fall 2021 semester. Ten awards will be available each year of the next three years. These scholarships directly address the needs and barriers identified by local Indigenous communities for flexible financial supports offered to post-secondary students.

“These awards allow for more students to engage in enriching learning and research opportunities at UNBC,” said UNBC Interim President Dr. Geoff Payne. “This significant investment meets the local labour market demand for knowledge and skills in engineering and a variety of other disciplines.”
