I am excited to be the inaugural Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering and feel that my life journey has been in this direction from the start. I was born in Trail, B.C., and have lived in 13 cities in B.C. and three in Alberta. I am a small-town girl at heart and love my province of B.C. I love the fact that UNBC is a small University in a small city. My formal education is in microbiology (BSc and PhD, University of Alberta) which included heavy doses of chemistry and biochemistry. My research is in the biological treatment of contaminated media (water, wastewater, air, and soil) and this led me to the field of engineering where I received an immersive engineering education experience as an Assistant then an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Houston. I then came back to B.C. to help create the School of Engineering in Kelowna. I am bringing that rich experience to UNBC and the Faculty of Science and Engineering. I am a Professional Licensee Engineering with EGBC and a member of many engineering and science societies.
