Why Join the COMC?

The COMC is not just any competition; it's a unique chance for students from kindergarten through grade 12 to dive into the world of mathematics in a fun, challenging, and rewarding way. While the exam primarily focuses on the grade 8-12 math curriculum, it is open to all students, offering an exciting opportunity to showcase mathematical talents and it is the only way to qualify for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) on Math Team Canada! 

Event Highlights:

  • Date: Wednesday, October 30th, 2024
  • Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • Location: Teaching and Learning Building - Room TBD
  • Cost: Suggested donation is $30 CAD per exam for anyone wishing to be eligible for prizes. The cost for anyone wishing to write the exam for fun is $30. Cash ONLY, will be collected at the door!
  • Format: Multiple-choice, written on paper, there will only be one exam, everyone writes the same exam
  • Registration Deadline: October 23, 2024, by 4:00 pm PST (to be eligible for prizes)

Eligibility:

The COMC is open to students in all locations, at all grade levels.


To be considered official participants and thereby qualify for awards, recognition or prizes, students and schools must meet the following requirements:

Students must assert that each of the following is true about themselves:

The student must be under 19 years of age as of June 30th of this year and
The student must be attending school full-time either virtually or in person (elementary, secondary, Cégep, or home-schooled) at least since September 15th of this year.

UNBC is registered as an official site, with qualified proctors.

Choose How You Want to Participate!

This year, you can join the math adventure in different ways! Whether you want to team up with family or friends, or compete individually, there’s an option for everyone. Work together to solve challenging problems, or go head-to-head to see who can score the highest.

Parents and non-students can participate too! While they won’t be eligible for prizes, they’ll still receive their scores and can enjoy the fun alongside you.

For students, imagine the thrill of competing with your peers, solving mind-bending problems, and having a chance to earn awards such as certificates, cash prizes, and entries into an exciting random prize draw! Plus, everyone will benefit from a structured environment, with certified proctors ensuring a fair and supportive competition.

This competition is a great way to sharpen your math skills, boost your confidence, and gain recognition for your hard work. Whether you're looking to challenge yourself, prepare for future math competitions, or simply have fun, the COMC is the perfect opportunity. Plus, participating in the COMC is the only way to qualify for the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) as part of Math Team Canada!
