MA Development Economics, 2017
What work are you doing now?
I am currently working as Banking Advisor with RBC Royal Bank. I offer personal banking services to all clients, including their day-to-day banking needs, personal credit needs, investment needs, and some fundamental estate planning.
What other training have you completed?
I completed the Canadian Investment Fund (IFC) course, and I am currently working on my Canadian Security Course.
How do you use the knowledge acquired through the degree in your job?
The knowledge of Economics helps me succeed in my everyday work and self-development. The understanding of Economics is very important when it comes to explaining to clients why and how the economy affects their own financial picture. For example, how would a typical monetary policy impact a bond's return?
What do you really enjoy about Economics?
Economics has a lot of sub-categories that allow students to study further in the area they are interested in. My research was focused on employment and technological upgrading, and this is a very interesting area. Although my job does not have much to do with the area that I studied in, the research and critical thinking skills that I obtained during my learning definitely increased my efficiency of problem-solving.
Why would you recommend the Economics program at UNBC to potential students?
The Economics program at UNBC offers students great learning resources, and UNBC's knowledgeable professors are always willing to help students to succeed in their studies. There are also many research opportunities for students to apply for. I was offered both a teaching assistantship and research assistantship during my studies at UNBC. Those experiences help me to develop learning skills and communication skills for my future learning and also helped me to be more competitive in the job market. I highly recommend the Economics program at UNBC to future students.
