The CDI believes in the power of people and the potential of communities. We are committed to working with communities, industry, business, and government to identify strengths, pursue collaboration, and encourage innovation that will help co-create strong and diversified communities and economies.
In keeping with the vision of the University of Northern British Columbia, the Community Development Institute is committed to working with all communities – Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal – to help them further their aspirations in community and regional development.
The Community Development Institute at UNBC is dedicated to:
- Understanding and realizing the potential of BC’s non-metropolitan communities in a changing global economy.
- Preparing students and practitioners for leadership roles in community and economic development.
- Creating a body of knowledge, information, and research that enhances our understanding and our ability to deal with the impacts of ongoing transformation.
The CDI realizes that for long-term community and economic transformation to be successful, all stakeholders involved must be actively engaged in planning the way forward. The CDI will continue to be inclusive of all stakeholders with the goal of broadening understanding and creating common plans for the future.
