Biography

Mark Thompson is a herpetologist. He works as a senior research ecologist with a consulting firm in Prince George. He completed his BSc (wildlife biology) at UNBC in 1998, his MSc thesis (Zoology - Phylogeography of long-toed salamanders) in 2003 at the UofC, and his MEd thesis (Multidisciplinary Leadership - Biophilia and Ecoliteracy of Amphibians).

Research and Expertise

Mark supervises projects into the research and management of amphibians, reptiles, and their habitats. He recently completed a five-year study into amphibians in the Peace Region of BC. Aquatic and terrestrial habitats were classified using systematic surveys to study the behaviour, migration, abundance, distributions, and diversity of amphibians in northern environments. Mark is interested in ecological research methods, sampling design, GIS, and conservation science.
