The University of Northern British Columbia offers a wide range of scholarships, bursaries and awards to recognize outstanding students and to provide financial assistance to help meet educational costs. Student responsibilities

Scholarships, bursaries and awards are made possible through the financial support of donors, including alumni, faculty, staff, community members, corporations and others. In return students are asked to:

  • Provide accurate and sufficient information to demonstrate that they meet the criteria for the award(s) they wish to be considered for
  • Show appreciation for any award they receive by thanking the donor in writing

Completed online applications

Completed on-line applications must be completed by 4:00 p.m. on the day of the published deadlines. In the event the deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, supporting documents only will be accepted until 4:00 pm the following business day.

Supporting documentation

Some awards require additional documentation such as letters of reference, proof of affiliation with a particular group, or verification of volunteer/community service and leadership. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of the criteria listed for individual awards.  
Letters of reference must be signed by the referee and either:

  • Scanned/emailed by the the referee to awards@unbc.ca, or
  • Faxed or mailed to UNBC by the referee (see below for mailing and fax information), or
  • The referee can put their signed letter in a sealed envelope, sign across the envelope seal and give the envelope to the student to submit.  The ENVELOPE MUST remain sealed.  If the envelope is opened by the student, the reference becomes invalid.

Students wishing to be considered for an award which requires supporting documentation must have all items to the Awards and Financial Aid Unit prior to the published deadlines.
