  • The presenters will be virtual, but we will have a physical location at UNBC for people to come together to watch, listen, reflect and support each other. 

The title of the cultural truth telling being shared is x̌əx̌ə həuistəŋ (sacred honor).

  • 60-minute presentation by Joan Morris (seɫɫəmah), her son Cyril Morris and UNBC Alumni Dr. Shelly Johnson 
    • seɫɫəmah (Joan) will speak about her lived experiences at Nanaimo Indian Hospital intersecting Kuper Island Residential School. Because of the assaults she faced as a student at KIRS she was often hospitalized as she suffered from the beatings of Sister Superior (children were sent from Kuper Island Residential school to Nanaimo Indian Hospital for many reasons, even if the children had no ailments or sickness). 
    • seɫɫəmah's resilience through self-forgiveness and forgiveness
    • Cyril will speak about his grandfather's talʔnəxʷ (Understanding) and his one-day experience out of the years at Nanaimo Indian Hospital. 
    • Dr. Johnson will speak about Indian Hospitals in a broader context. 
  • 15-minute question and answers
  • 15-minute ceremony conducted by Elder Joan Morris
